Alliance to MEDPAC - Keep the MIPS!
The Alliance of Specialty Medicine urged the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC) to withdraw its recommendation to eliminate the Medicare Incentive Payment System (MIPS) and replace it with a new Voluntary Value Program (VVP). The specialists cited concerns with a lack of advanced alternative payment models for specialty physicians to participate; the limited applicability of population-based measures on the quality and cost of specialty medical care; statutory emphasis on specialty society-led development of quality measures and clinical data registries; and, the viability of fee-for-service for many specialists and subspecialists whose services will not fit into alternative payment or delivery arrangements, or where variation in payment, quality and appropriateness have already been addressed. The specialty group urged MedPAC to work toward a new recommendation that would improve aspects of the MIPS program that remain a challenge for all clinicians.
