In response to Congress’ end-of-the-year 2021 action to stave off some of the 9% in looming cuts to Medicare payments, the Alliance of Specialty Medicine wrote to the bipartisan leadership of the House and Senate, renewing a call for hearings and reform of the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA) of 2015.

In February of 2022, the Alliance wrote to the leadership of the House and Senate committees of jurisdiction requesting hearings on MACRA, emphasizing the challenges its specialists face under the current Medicare physician payment system and the Quality Payment Program. The coalition focused on the need to adjust Medicare physician reimbursements to account for rising inflation and provide meaningful pathways for specialists to participate in quality improvement programs.
