The Alliance of Specialty Medicine submitted comments to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners in order to provide input on ensuring patient access to specialty care. As the result of the sea change in the health insurance marketplace, additional regulation at the state level must ensure that provider networks include specialists so that patients are not denied access or subjected to exorbitant out of pocket costs when attempting to obtain the care they need. The Alliance of Specialty Medicine has broad representation of specialty physicians and will continue to provide the NAIC with input as it develops model state regulations designed to address these issues.
