The Alliance of Specialty Medicine endorsed two bipartisan bills to address the growing problem of physician workforce shortage.
The Alliance has been focusing more and more on physician workforce issues, including testifying at the Institute of Medicine′s (IOM) public meeting in December 2012 and then hosting the IOM and the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) at its own physician policy roundtable at the Capitol this month. Also at the roundtable meeting were staff presentations from Sens. Nelson and Schumer and Reps. Schock and Schwartz offices on their legislative proposals to increase Graduate Medical Education (GME) residency slots by 15,000 over the next five years.
