The Alliance of Specialty Medicine wrote to the Chairman and Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Committee, the House Energy and Committee and the Senate Finance Committee to protest the inclusion of a misvalued code provision in the Medicare extenders package released by the Ways and Means Committee on November 15th.  This provision will ostensibly be used to offset some of the cost of the Medicare package. However, the Alliance believes this “pay for” unduly targets the specialty provider community and risks inappropriately undervaluing physician services and threatens patient access to care. The Alliance also noted that the American Medical Association has been working on misvalued codes through its Relative Value System Update Committee or RUC as has the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
