On Call, the newsletter of the Alliance of Specialty Medicine features articles highlighting the work and advocacy to promote greater access to specialty care. In this edition, we lead off with the Alliance’s virtual return to Capitol Hill, where over 100 specialty docs from across the country logged in for a virtual legislative advocacy day.  Thirteen members of Congress joined us online to discuss the important health issues Congress is focused for the end of the year, including the nearly 9% in Medicare payment cuts.  Other stories highlight our member societies working on safety and quality issues and one specialty doc garnering an appointment to a payment advisory panel at the US Department of Health and Human Services.

Our Specialty Spotlight focuses on the American Society of Retinal Specialists (ASRS) and their “See for a Lifetime” public awareness campaign. By empowering the public to care for their vision, understand the risk factors, know the signs, recognize the symptoms and find a retina specialist, ASRS is helping prevent vision loss, and in many cases save people’s sight.
