In its ongoing advocacy to address the help patients adversely affected by step therapy, the Alliance of Specialty Medicine wrote letters of support to both the House and Senate sponsors of H.R. 2163 and S.464, the Safe Step Act.  These companion bills would provide patients and providers with a clear and transparent appeals process when subject to step therapy protocols instituted by insurers.  The Senate letter was addressed to Senators Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Maggie Hassan (D-NH), Bill Cassidy (R-LA), and Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and the House letter to Representatives Ruiz (D-CA) and Wensstrup (R-OH).

The Safe Step Act would help return medical decisions that impact patients’ lives back to physicians and patients, thereby helping to restore the physician-patient relationship. For these reasons, the undersigned organizations of the Alliance extend their strong support.
